Seed Treatment:

Sowing seeds without treatment results in less number of plants. And damage caused by insects also increases. Therefore, before sowing the seeds, use Carbafuran 35S 100 g/kg of seeds. Use the dowel as a sticker to stick the grains properly.

Chemical Fertilizer :

Generally, chemical fertilizers have the following requirements

Local Varieties40 kg Nitrogen + 20 kg Phosphorus
Hybrids Yield More80 kg Nitrogen + 40 kg Phosphorus
For Marginal Farmers40 kg Nitrogen + 40 kg Phosphorus

Apply full amount of phosphorus and half dose of nitrogen at the time of sowing of sorghum. 30-40 days after sowing of sorghum, the remaining installment of nitrogen-enriched fertilizer should be given to Ori in a row between two harvests.

Pest control and intercropping:

Spray Agrovidon-48, 2.5 liter/ha or 0.5 kg atrazine or 0.5 kg propazine per ha before sorghum emergence for blight control in sorghum crop. In addition an intercropping and a hand weeding 30-35 days after sowing is recommended. In order to prevent Agia infestation, crop rotation should be done instead of sowing sorghum continuously in the same field year after year.

Drying and Storage:

For safe storage of jowar, jowar grains should be dried in sunlight to a moisture content of 10-12 percent. Farmers store in local methods like earthen pots, bags and iron barrels. According to the storage system of sorghum, it should be stored in airtight iron square or round barrels.
